Antonio Cairoli è uscito dalla trasferta portoghese con all’attivo due secondi posti. Il siciliano, sempre veloce, ha commesso qualche sbavatura di troppo sia nella prima che nella seconda manche.
In Gara 1 è stato decisivo lo spegnimento della sua KTM, mentre nella seconda prova è incappato in una caduta poco dopo aver guadagnato la leadership. Nonostante tutto, è riuscito a limitare i danni ed a portare a casa punti pesanti in ottica campionato. Il vantaggio su Tim Gajser, autore di una doppietta, è rimasto ancora importante ed è ora di 34 punti.
Ritorno in gara per il francese Romain Febvre, dopo l’infortunio patito nella tappa d’apertura del Mondiale in Argentina. Il pilota Yamaha ha avuto qualche problema di troppo, specie nel corso della prima frazione, complice una caduta che gli ha fatto perdere tempo prezioso e lo ha costretto a rimontare. Il transalpino è stato comunque in grado di conquistare il nono posto, mentre nella seconda manche è andato meglio finendo a ridosso della TOP FIVE. L’esito generale del GP lo ha visto ottenere l’ottava piazza: un buon risultato in attesa di tornare al top della forma.
Mitchell Evans ha ribadito l’ottimo stato di forma palesato nel corso delle ultime uscite e si è mantenuto costantemente nelle posizioni di vertice. L’australiano ha colto un quarto ed un terzo posto di manche, agguantando il gradino più basso del podio nell’assoluta. Una prestazione degna di nota, che ha bissato il risultato conseguito nella prova inaugurale della stagione in Argentina e che gli ha permesso di portarsi a pochi punti dai primi cinque in campionato.
Fine settimana in chiaroscuro per Jago Geerts: come già successo una settimana fa, infatti, il belga dopo un’ottima prima manche non è stato in grado di ripetersi. La frazione d’apertura lo ha visto tra i protagonisti, grazie al terzo posto arrivato anche con un pizzico di fortuna, data la scivolata che ha estromesso Henry Jacobi dal podio a pochi giri dal termine. Nella seconda, invece, l’alfiere del team Yamaha ha terminato anzitempo la prova. Una disdetta dato il buon ritmo palesato in Gara 1; il fiammingo è riuscito comunque a difendere la quarta posizione nella classifica generale.
Weekend da archiviare in fretta per Zachary Pichon: il pilota francese ha esordito con un 30esimo posto nella manche di qualifica, migliorandosi nelle gare della domenica ma senza mai andare a punti. Un 25esimo ed un 21esimo di manche non gli hanno dato la possibilità di raccogliere punti iridati, come successo invece in Argentina, Gran Bretagna e Trentino.
Nel campionato europeo 2T, miglior risultato stagionale per Andrea Vendruscolo: l’azzurro ha concluso per due volte nono, centrando la top 10 di giornata. Una prova concreta per il pilota Yamaha, che è così riuscito ad insidiarsi al decimo posto nella classifica generale, grazie anche alla sua ottima continuità di risultati.
A punti anche Sebastian Zenato: autore del 19esimo tempo nelle qualifiche, l’italiano ha ripetuto il medesimo piazzamento anche in Gara 1, per poi migliorare nella heat di chiusura, conclusa in 17esima piazza. L’esito complessivo della prova lo ha visto concludere nella top 20 di giornata.
Il Mondiale MXGP continuerà nel fine settimana, con la settimana tappa del campionato che andrà in scena sullo spettacolare tracciato francese di Saint Jean d’Angely. Oltre alla MXGP e alla MX2 in programma prevede anche la presenza dell’Europeo ENX125 e EMX250.

AT AGUEDA CIRCUIT, CAIROLI CONQUERED THE SECOND PLACE IN MXGP. EVANS FINISHED THIRD IN MX2
Antonio Cairoli ended the Portuguese GP with two second places. The Sicilian, who has been fast throughout the weekend, made a few mistakes in Race 1 as well as in Race 2. In Race 1 his bike switched off and it was crucial, while in Race 2 he crashed a few moments after that he took the leadership of the race. Despite of that, he managed to limit the damage and he brought home very important championship points. His advantage on Tim Gajser (who had a double win) is still quite significant as the gap is 34 points.
Romain Febvre had his comeback to the track after the injury that he suffered at the beginning of the World Championship in Argentina. The Yamaha rider had some issues, especially in Race 1, as he crashed and he lost a lot of time. He had then to recover from the mistake and he made it to the 9th place, while in Race 2 he finished very close to the TOP FIVE. The final overall classification saw him 8th, which is a good result while waiting to come back to the perfect shape.
Mitchell Evans confirmed the excellent shape that he had in the past weekends and he maintained himself in the Top placements. The Australian finished 3rd and 4th in Race 1 and Race 2 and he ended on the podium in the Overall of the weekend. It was a remarkable performance and this, added to the good result that he gained in Argentina, allows him to be very close to the Top 5 of the Championship in the General Classification.
Bittersweet weekend for Jago Geerts. As it happened one week ago, in facts, the Belgian had an excellent Race 1 but he could not repeat the result in Race 2. In Race 1 he finished 3rd, thanks to the slip that occurred to Henry Jacobi when there were a few laps to go. In Race 2, instead, Team Yamaha rider had to retire. It was a pity considering how good he was riding. The Belgian, however, managed to finish the weekend in 4th place in the Overall Classification.
Weekend to forget for Zachary Pichon. The French finished in 30th place in Qualifying race, but he improved his performance on Sunday, even though he did not gain any points. The 25th place in Race 1 and the 21st in Race 2 were not enough to collect any championship points, the opposite that happened in Argentina, Great Britain and Trentino.
In the 2 strokes European Championship, Andrea Vendruscolo gained his best result of the season: the Italian finished 9th in both races, so he was able to enter the Overall Top Ten. Concrete performance for the Yamaha rider: he has kept the pace with good results and he moved to the 10th place in the General Classification.
Sebastian Zenato gained points too. He finished Qualifying Race in 19th position, same placement of Race 1. In Race 2 he improved and he finished in 17th position. He entered the Top 20 in the Overall Classification of the day.
MXGP World Championship will continue next weekend, with the seventh round of the Championship that will take place on the spectacular circuit of Saint Jean d’Angely, in France. Other than the MXGP and the MX2, the schedule will also see the presence of the EMX125 and the EMX250 European championships.
