In Italia invece Maggiora, Cavallara e Pietramurata

Ci vediamo in pista!!!

ENGLISH VERSION

Hello Mattia and thanks for the chat we will have.

Before talking about 2023, let’s take stock of last season.

MXR -How was the 2022 season emotionally? A difficult start with the 250, the speed was there but the results were lacking. What explanation did you give yourself?

MG101 – The first part of the 2022 season was mentally difficult, I arrived prepared and with high goals given the good season but I wasn’t always able to materialize. I had some good races but some bad ones and I wasn’t able to maintain the results we had set ourselves. Surely the pressure of the result didn’t help a bit but it wasn’t just that.

MXR – Then the change of engine capacity, how did the decision between you and the team mature? Honestly, including us, we had some doubts about this gearbox on the run….

MG101 – The decision came from the subdued results and the negative pressure that had arisen, I tried my best to fix the situation but things weren’t going any better. So both to start a new path from 0, and to gain experience in the new category in view of the change in the 2023 season, we have made this decision together.

MXR – A crescendo ending from the GPs to the Nations, can you tell us about it?

MG101 – After the change of engine capacity I immediately got on well with the bike and I tackled the first races completely without expectations. I did very well right away and placed myself more than once in the upper areas of the standings, which I never would have thought after such a short time. A few crashes and bad luck in the end of the championship races but then the last GP in Turkey and the nations went great and demonstrate the work and the positive process done from the change onwards, with more 450 hours and experience.

MXR – America, what was the experience? What are the things you brought home in that short period? You also stayed after the Nations to tour a bit, can you tell us your impressions?

MG101 – America is another world, everything works quite differently and there are other habits. I found myself very well and even in the post-nation period we spent there I had a lot of fun and I had the opportunity to ride a few tracks in training and get to know the environment a little more. Everything much bigger, from the slopes, to the structures, to the supermarkets and the roads. Loved it!

MXR – In a somewhat complicated season, we believe the relationship with the team is fundamental. How did things go between you in 2022?

MG101 – Obviously the relationship is important when things are going well but it is even more so when not everything is going the right way. I have always had support from them to understand and improve in any aspect. We all work together for a common goal.

MXR – Let’s also talk about Tony, it’s clear that you have a good relationship. How much has it helped you especially in the difficult moments of 2022?

MG101 – I have a good relationship with Tony, in addition to the personal factor, he knows what it’s like to be a rider and knows all the dynamics. Everyone has their own way of dealing with things but is always available in times of need for advice.

MXR – The question is a must. It has often been a topic of discussion among enthusiasts. It’s time to put a stop to it and maybe get some pebbles out of your shoe. Has your passion for videos taken away something from your competitive side? Or is it also a way to ease the pressure? Finally tell us everything you want about it…

MG101 – Discussions on the topic of moto-videos only make me laugh now. No one knows how things stand and everyone thinks in their own way… but still no one has understood that mine is a passion that I have always had, that I have managed as long as I could and that is now followed by some of my friends-collaborators. I have been doing very little for a couple of years now, we have structured the various projects together and we redefine them during the winter or the breaks but then they are the ones who manage and carry on. I only take care of it when I have the time and desire, even just to get away for a bit. He has taken 0 time from my main task, it has only helped me to detach from time to time as a normal other passion.

MXR – Let’s start talking about this season. Let’s talk about team organization. The roles of Claudio, Davide and why not Tony too have changed. Can you tell us what changes for you riders and if so how?

MG101 – The roles have changed but everything works the same for us. Obviously they then have different jobs but it makes no difference to us and we are followed in the same way as before.

MXR – A few days before the end of the year you got to ride with Herlings in training. Was there a way to talk about what happened last season and the “social commentary” that Jeffrey had reserved for you? Tell us if and what happened.

MG101 – Nothing happened with Jeffrey, we shot a few days together and that was it. There are no bad moods or strange things, it was just a joking message then magnified by the various media.

MXR – Back to you, only you, how do you want to face this new vintage and how are you preparing both physically and mentally?

MG101 – I want to face this season with more serenity and conviction. Obviously we are working between the bike and active physics for preparation suitable for the 450 which I didn’t have last year and therefore arrive more prepared from all points of view.

MXR – This year everyone expects another step from you in MXGP, how do you realistically think you can place yourself in this championship?

MG101 – Obviously I’m the first to expect a step up from last year’s mid-season. I have more experience with the bike and training, I understood better how the new category works and the goal is to be in the top 5 as often as possible.

MXR – How is your development work on the bikes you will be racing? And above all how does it work, what are your roles, Jorge’s and Simon’s in this sense?

MG101 – Now the bike is already set up, we all worked together at the end of the season in testing to make a few steps in various things about the bikes and we achieved a very good result.

MXR – You, Alberto and Andrea. We have three top youngsters in Motocross that matters. Can you tell us about your relationship with them?

MG101 – I’ve known Alberto and Andrea forever, we started together when we were kids and I found both of them in some category along the way. I have good relations with both, now obviously everyone does their thing and we see each other less but it’s nice to bring a little bit of Italy together in the world.

MXR – Your popularity, when is it good and when does it become a burden?

MG101 – I like “popularity”, it’s nice to see that people know me and are passionate about what I do and support me. Obviously it’s also a commitment sometimes between photos and autographs especially in moments like races where we riders are there mainly for something else, that is racing. You have to know how to manage the two things well together because it shouldn’t take away concentration from the moments of the race and it’s not always easy, above all because people can’t understand the riders in those situations, just as I didn’t understand them when I was on the other side of the curtain. It’s very nice to see people at the races and especially in Italy when they cheer for you, it’s an inexplicable charge.

MXR – What are your plans for the pre-season races? A little thought about some Pro Prestige tests during 2023?

MG101 – We will participate in the internationals as always, to complete the preparation and have some more references. Pro Prestige races at the moment I don’t know, the season is quite tight and demanding so I don’t know if we will be able to fit everything together.

MXR – To close, tell us three Italian and three foreign tracks that you particularly like. And what do you think of the new championship format with the Saturday race with points up for grabs?

MG101 – Points in Saturday’s races are a bit special, they can change the championship quite a lot and the two-day race weekend was already demanding, so it will be even more important to do well from Saturday. Three trails that I particularly like are Matterley Basin, RedBud and Villa La Angostura. In Italy instead Maggiora, Cavallara and Pietramurata.

MXR – Greetings and thanks from all of us at MXREPORT, may it be a fantastic 2023 for you and the De Carli team! See you on the track!!!

MG101 – Thanks to you and greetings to all readers! See you in Ponte a Egola for the start of the races!
