Bibione Sand Storm: Genot and Naveaux triumph
Two Belgians top the standings at the 2026 Sand Races World Championship round

Bibione – The 2026 edition of the Bibione Sand Storm adds two new names to its roll of honour. After two thrilling days of racing, Cyril Genot and Randy Naveaux emerge victorious from the sandy hell of the FIM Sand Races World Championship. Bad luck strikes Kiara Fontanesi once again, forcing her to retire.

After a Saturday marked by rain and cold winds, milder weather welcomes the Sand Storm on Sunday, attracting a large crowd of spectators. The event once again proves to be a winning formula, thanks to the excellent work of the Moto Club BB1 team and the Sand Storm organisation.

Randy Naveaux (Yamaha – Belgium) makes it two wins in a row after his Saturday success, delivering a dominant performance, also benefiting from the retirement of his main rival, Harry Walker (Yamaha – Great Britain). Taking advantage of the Briton’s withdrawal, Oliver Vandendijck (Honda – Belgium) finishes second, with Glen De Swarte (Honda – Belgium) completing the podium. Dirk Schelfhout (Honda – Belgium), winner of last year’s edition and the highest-placed Veteran rider, finishes fourth overall, ahead of Alois Waloszek (Yamaha – France).

The top Italian rider is Majcol Porracin (Yamaha), who improves on Saturday’s result to finish seventh overall and win the National race. Lorenzo Taricco (Yamaha) also puts in a good performance, finishing eleventh in Race 2.

MOTO

The motorcycle race keeps the crowd lining the track at Piazzale Zenith on the edge of their seats throughout the entire 90-minute heat. The drama, overtaking moves and unexpected setbacks affecting many of the leading contenders make it one of the most exciting races in Bibione Sand Storm history. Hakon Fredriksen (Yamaha – Norway), Cyril Genot (Honda – Belgium), Todd Kellett (Honda – Great Britain), Adrien Petit (Honda – France) and Damien Knuiman (Yamaha – the Netherlands) are at the heart of a thrilling battle, repeatedly overtaking one another. In the end, victory goes to Genot, who overcomes Fredriksen’s resistance with a powerful late charge to claim the overall Sand Storm title. After his heavy crash on Saturday, Kellett is hampered this time by a problem during refuelling. He finishes third in the heat and fourth overall, behind the consistent Knuiman. Petit takes fifth overall.

The women’s category once again proves elusive for Kiara Fontanesi (GasGas – Italy), who has to settle for second place for the second year running. This time, refuelling proves decisive: Kiara arrives at the pit stop comfortably leading her race, but her bike will not restart afterwards, forcing the Italian champion to concede victory. Mathilde Martinez (Honda – France) takes advantage to become Bibione’s new queen.

Among the Italian riders, Matteo Pavoni (Ducati) secures a solid eighth place, while Lorenzo Macoritto (Husqvarna) is forced to retire.

Australian rider Jasper Bergmuller, who travelled the furthest to compete, is at the centre of one of the weekend’s most moving moments when he receives the special trophy dedicated to Massimo Zamparo. The award is presented by the parents, daughter and wife of the late founder of the Bibione Sand Storm, alongside special guests Kiara Fontanesi and Vanni Oddera.

The 2026 Bibione Sand Storm concludes on a very positive note, particularly in terms of entries: a total of 217 riders competed across the World Championship, National race and Night race.
