Fredriksen and Naveaux shine on Saturday in Bibione
The results after the opening heats of the FIM Sand Races World Championship

Bibione – Hakon Fredriksen and Randy Naveaux lead the field at the halfway point of the 2026 Bibione Sand Storm. The Norwegian and the Belgian are at the top of the standings in the motorcycle and quad classes, respectively, following the opening heats of the Italian round of the FIM Sand Races World Championship.

The race schedule was heavily affected by the high tide, which made the track unridable throughout the morning. However, the organisers managed to make up for the lost time, and racing finally got underway at 1 pm. The morning was therefore devoted to the freestyle show by Vanni Oddera’s crew and the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended, among others, by Lucas Pavanetto, Vice-President of the Veneto Region. One of the most moving moments was the tribute to Massimo Zamparo, with a video shown on the giant screen that brought emotion to the entire Piazzale Zenith.

As mentioned, racing began at 1 pm, with the motorcycles kicking off the action. Hakon Fredriksen (Yamaha – Norway) grabbed the holeshot and led from start to finish, despite repeated attacks from Cyril Genot (Honda – Belgium). In the closing stages, Genot was forced to slow down due to a mechanical issue, but still managed to hold on to second place. Damien Knuiman (Yamaha – Netherlands) completed the podium, followed by Jeremy Hauquier (Yamaha – France) and Adrien Petit (Honda – France).

It was a difficult race for defending champion Todd Kellett (Honda – Great Britain), who crashed in the early stages and had to fight his way back through the field to finish sixth.

The two Italian riders Matteo Pavoni (Ducati) and Lorenzo Macoritto (Husqvarna) delivered strong performances, finishing eighth and ninth, respectively. Kiara Fontanesi (GasGas) also impressed, taking 16th place and moving to the top of the provisional women’s standings.

The quad race came down to a thrilling battle between Randy Naveaux (Yamaha – Belgium) and Harry Walker (Yamaha – Great Britain). After an hour of racing on Bibione’s challenging sand, the two riders sprinted towards the chequered flag, with Naveaux taking the win. Oliver Vandendijck (Honda – Belgium) finished third, ahead of fellow Belgians Glenn De Swarte (Honda) and Dirk Schelfhout (Honda). Majcol Porracin (Yamaha) flew the Italian flag high with a solid 10th-place finish.

The 2026 Bibione Sand Storm continues with the Night Race, the amateur race that traditionally lights up Saturday night at Piazzale Zenith, followed tomorrow by the second heats of the motorcycle and quad world championship races. Once these races are completed, the final standings of Bibione Sand Storm will be official.
